COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SAW, CIRCULAR, GASOLINE ENGINE DRIVEN, PORTABLE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers a rescue saw which is commonly used for the purpose of removing personnel lodged in damaged aircraft and other emergency evacuation needs.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Performance:
Powered by an air coded, single cylinder, two-cycle gasoline engine.
Minimum engine displacement of 4.4 cubic inches (72.4 cc) which develops 4.7 brake horsepower minimum, when tested in accordance with the requirements of SAE Standard J1349, and having a wheel speed of 6,300 RPM maximum in accordance with ANSI B7.1-1988.
3.2 Functional characteristics:
Capable of cutting in any position.
All controls (fuel primer or choke, throttle and ignition switch) conveniently positioned for operator control in accordance with the requirements of ANSI B7.5-1990.
Weight (less fuel and blade) 31 pounds maximum.
High strength V-belt housed in a safety guard. (See ANSI B7.5-1990).
Adjustable blade guard.
Non-tip type stand.
12 inch saw blade capacity.

Each saw with accessories, instructions, etc, shall be furnished in a metal carrying case.
3.3 Accessories furnished.
1 ea 12 inch diameter carbide tipped blade.
1 ea Maximum 12 inch diameter reinforced steel cutting abrasive wheel in accordance with ANSI B7.5-1990 and ANSI B7.1-1988.
1 ea Maximum 12 inch diameter reinforced concrete abrasive wheel in accordance with ANSI B7.5-1990 and ANSI B7.1-1998.
1 ea Safety can of one gallon capacity, in accordance with Underwriters’ laboratories Standard Number 30, of Factory Mutual (FM) Safety Can Standard 6051/6052.
1 pr Protective eyewear and clear protective face shield
1 ea Spare drive belt
1 ea Spare air filter
1 ea Six (6) each 1/4 pint bottles of the manufacturer’s recommended SAE approved 2-cycle engine oil.
