Salient characteristics:
Capable of drilling holes up to 1/2 inch in steel, 2-1/2 inches in wood and 4 inches in dirt.
Powered by an air-cooled, single cylinder, two-cycle gasoline engine with a recoil starter.
Develops one horsepower (minimum) at an operating speed (at the chuck) of 300 to 400 RPM.
Manually operated throttle located in a pistol grip type handle to vary operating speed.
Centrifugal type clutch to disengage drive mechanism when running at idle speed.
1/2 inch capacity medium duty key operated chuck.
Fuel tank capacity of 1 pint minimum.
Weight 11-1/2 pounds maximum.
Length 15 inches maximum.
Capable of satisfactory operation in any position.
Furnished in a metal carrying case of sufficient size to contain the drill, maintenance tools and accessories. Shall be complete with hinged cover, carrying handle, closing, fastener, and adequate blocking to protect the drill. Exterior surfaces shall have a durable coating of paint or enamel, except surfaces which are inherently corrosion free or electroplated.
Furnished with a set of operating and maintenance instructions, a list of available accessories, and any special equipment and tools necessary to assure efficient operation.

Workmanship. Shall be free of defects that may impair serviceability and durability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, and marking. The drills shall be preserved and packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
