COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SANDER, DISK, PNEUMATIC, PORTABLE (RANDOM ORBITAL)
This Commercial Item Description is approved by the Commissioner, Federal Supply, Service, General Services Administration, for the use of all Federal agencies.
1. Scope. This commercial item description covers
portable, pneumatic, random orbital disk sanders used for blending and
smoothing filler, shaping, forming and feather edging on wood, metal, and
plastic surfaces. The sander’s random orbital action prevents scratches and
swirl marks.
2. Salient Characteristics.
2.1 Design. The sander shall be similar to Figure I and comply with the
performance criteria in Table I. The sander shall be of the long-handle type as
depicted in Figure 1. The sander shall be equipped with a 6 inch diameter
neoprene sponge pad with a canvas suitable for use with glue-on abrasive discs.
The sander shall operate properly at the manufacturer’s recommended operating
pressure.

2.2 Materials: The materials used in the construction
of all components shall be capable of completing the examination and tests
required herein. All components shall be new and unused. Repaired or
reconditioned components shall not be acceptable. A metal or composite housing
is required. Cadmium is not an acceptable finish.
